according to srihith, ramaiah, the makers of ghajini, wanted a director to work with who would not only balance the emotions and sentiments in the film, but also a director who would be capable of handling a complex story and a huge cast. the choice was in his hand to pick prabhu solomon from an entirely different industry. even though he was new to the tamil film industry, he was familiar with the hindi film industry. he had made a movie in the same genre, dabangg. this also helped in his long journey.
ghajini was produced by s shankar, who had produced kalyanam (2005). although ghajini was a commercial success, kalyanam earned more money than ghajini. this would turn out to be a case of winning with both the losses.
